Very
High Resolution Satellite Imagery (VHRS) is a cost-effective
method to map very large areas of land
at up to 1:5000 scale quickly. Satellite sensors
pass the same spot
on the earth every 2 days. There are no restrictions.
The imagery can then be ortho-rectified to fit any
projection
and
imported
into a Geographic Information System or engineering
design software to enable planning and development.
For
mapping scales larger then 1:10,000 to 1:500 aerial
imagery is recommended. Example of
aerial imagery for golf course development.
Whilst
satellite and aerial imagery provide mapping of large
areas quickly, for very detailed surveys ground
survey methods are preferable using total stations
or GPS.
